Performing A Practical Assessment - In Depth Guide

Modified on Fri, 24 Jan, 2020 at 3:45 PM

The first step is to Sync the Practical Assessments down to an iPad.

Sign into the iPad as the Assessor who will perform the Assessment.

Go to the Practical Assessment page, and press the “sync” button next to the assessment.  Multiple assessments can be synced to the device.  You must wait for the sync to complete. A notification will inform you when all selected Assessments have been synced.  Leaving connection to the internet prior to the completion of this sync will result in the assessment not being synced to the device.

The Assessment should not be started until the device is at the location which the Assessment will be undertaken.

The Assessment will be available on the ipad to which it has been synced. The Assessment must be completed on the ipad which the Assessment was synced to.

Once all required Assessments have been synced to the iPad, you can go to the location that the Practical Assessment is intended to be done at.  You can now commence the Practical Assessment.

Only one Assessment should be done at a time on an iPad.

Select the assessment which is to be done.  At this point, you will be prompted for a Content Expert.  If needed, select the Content Expert.  the Content Expert should be selected directly prior to undertaking the Assessment.

You are now ready to perform the Assessment.  The assessment is divided into a series of Pages, organized into Chapters.

Each Page requires both Evidence and Assessment Criteria. For each Page, all required Evidence must be captured and all Performance Criteria must be marked either Competent or Not Competent.  Failing to do either will render the Assessment as incomplete.

Each Page requiring Evidence currently requires between 1 and 3 pieces of Evidence.  This is indicated below the Evidence Capture, ie: 1 of 3.   Evidence is captured by pressing the red capture button, directly below the Evidence Capture section.  This will then prompt the appropriate evidence capture option to appear, such as Camera, Video Recorder, or Microphone.  Once Evidence has been captured, if additional evidence is required, the arrows next to the red capture button can be used to select the next Evidence to be captured.

Performance Criteria are required for each page. For each Performance Criteria, a response of either Competent or Not Competent must be selected.  All Performance Criteria must have a response, or the Assessment will not be complete.  If the Candidate is not Competent in all Performance Criteria, they will not be considered Competent in the Assessment.

A Page is complete when all required Evidence and Performance Criteria have been provided. At this point, the Next Page button should be selected.

It is worth noting that the Save as Draft button does not need to be pressed unless the assessment is being suspended.  The Evidence is saved to the iPad when the Next Page button is pressed.

Once all Pages have been completed, with all required Evidence and Performance Criteria, pressing the Next Page when on the last Page will direct you the signature page.  The Candidate, Assessor, and if present Content Expert, must sign the ipad in the associated box.

The Assessment should then be Submitted by selecting the Submit button. The completed assessment will be stored on the device until it is connected to the internet, when it will be automatically sent to the LAAMP servers while the app is open.

From here, other assessments which have been synced to the device may be undertaken.

Once all assessments are complete, the ipad should be taken to where there’s internet, where all completed assessments on the device will be automatically sent to the LAAMP servers.

This syncing requires the app be open.  If the app is closed while the syncing is taking place, the syncing will pause. If the syncing is paused, it will automatically resume when the app is reopened.

Once Syncing of an Assessment is complete, it will proceed to the next step for that assessment.

Once Syncing of all assessments on the Ipad is complete, the iPad will notify you with a popup message.  The iPad is then available for new Practical Assessment to be undertaken on it.
